Planet 5185

An alternative Earth. Familiar ground, wrong sky.

A survival world where the places you know have been rearranged onto somewhere else entirely. America borders Australia. Canada runs into a glacier the size of a continent. Ireland sits across the ice from Japan, and the Toowoomba escarpment has waterfalls, rainforest and yowies.

You arrive with nothing, mine and build what you need, feed yourself, survive the night — and if you want, settle down, marry a villager and make a life there.

One map, every climate

The continents are laid out as a single connected landmass split by a vast ice corridor: forested Skillien and America in the west, red Australian desert, the Canadian range, the tropics of Toowoomba, and the green lake country of Ireland facing the mountains of Japan and China across the ice.

Places worth walking to

Whale Beach — humpback whales breaching through shallow turquoise lagoons at night

Whale Beach

Turquoise lagoons over pale sand, ringed by sinkholes that open without warning. Whales breach through the shallows — and burrow beneath them. Beautiful, and the ground is not to be trusted.

Canadian region — snow-capped mountains, pine forest and glacial lakes

The Canadian Range

Snow peaks, pine and cold blue lakes running down to the ice corridor. Moose on the ridges, hard winters, and the best timber on the map.

Toowoomba region — escarpment waterfalls, rainforest and yowies

Toowoomba

An escarpment of waterfalls falling into rainforest, eucalypt and tree fern — and yowies out on the rocks, straight out of Queensland folklore. Warm, loud, and full of things that were never supposed to share a continent.

From blocks to animals

Every species began as a blocky voxel stand-in — enough to get the size and silhouette right — and is being rebuilt as a proper organic model with real anatomy, posture and skin. Drag the slider to see the difference. Not all sixty are finished; this is the work in progress.

Playing it

Mining and building on a block grid, day and night cycles, hunger, stamina and rest, villagers to meet, and full controller support so it plays properly from the couch. Below: the world as it currently runs.
